Advocacy Visit: Nigerian Red Cross Society Meets with Borno State Guidance and Counselling Board
As part of the activities marking the 2025 International Volunteers Day (IVD), the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Borno State Branch, paid an advocacy visit to the Executive SECRETARY of the Borno State Guidance and Counselling Board, Prof. Mohammed Abba Jimme, at the Board’s Headquarters in Maiduguri.
The Red Cross team, led by the Branch Secretary, Muhammad Zannah Barma, the Red Cross team congratulated Prof. Jimme on his appointment by His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, and commended the Governor for identifying a seasoned professional to lead the Board. The team highlighted the close alignment between the humanitarian focus of the Red Cross and the people-centered policies of the present administration in the State.
The Red Cross Secretary also informed the Executive SECRETARY about the global significance of International Volunteers Day, celebrated every December 5th, and the 2025 theme, “Solidarity Through Volunteerism.” He extended a formal invitation to Prof. Jimme to attend the State’s IVD celebration.
In his remarks, Prof. Jimme expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to supporting youth development and strengthening guidance and counselling structures across Borno State. He noted that the Board is expanding its programmes to include skills acquisition, youth empowerment initiatives, and the establishment of Guidance and Counselling Units in secondary schools. He also praised the Red Cross for its vital humanitarian contributions, especially during the Maiduguri flood disaster of September 2024.
The visit featured the presentation of First Aid Kits to the Board and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion. Both parties expressed optimism about future collaborations in advancing youth empowerment, community development, and humanitarian efforts in Borno State.
